Shuyi is a Ph.D. candidate at Prof. Weiguo Xu’s Research Group, School of Architecture, Tsinghua University. He started the Joint Doctoral Program in 2023 at the Chair of Digital Building Technologies, Institute of Technology in Architecture (ITA) of ETH Zurich. His current research focuses on bio-inspired 3D concrete printing (3DCP) methods. Multi-scale bionic methods are involved in this topic to enhance the structure durability, shape complexity, and construction automation of 3DCP buildings.

Before joining Tsinghua, Shuyi worked at XWG design studio for over one year, where he gained hands-on experience in 3DCP, including coding, tool path programming, and in-situ construction. While pursuing his dual master’s degree at both Tongji and Georgia Tech, he became acquainted with digital fabrication and computational design.
