Lena Kitani is a MAS Trainee of the chair of Digital Building Technologies (dbt), Institute of Technology in Architecture (ITA) at the Department of Architecture (D-ARCH) of ETH Zurich.
She received her Diploma in Architecture from the Department of Architecture of the University of Patras in 2015 and is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece. Her professional experience includes 5 years of practice shared between Switzerland and Greece and spans from architectural design to urbanism and landscape architecture. Her interest focuses on the factors defining the user’s experience, the social role of architecture and digital craftsmanship.
In 2021 she received her Master of Advanced Studies in Architecture and Digital Fabrication from ETH Zurich, where she had the chance to obtain computational skills applicable in architecture and focus on parametric design and digital fabrication. Her master thesis “Graded Ice Matrix Structures” is a research for a controlled, lean-production-model of spatially graded concrete elements using ice formwork.
Her current research focuses on the further development and automation of using programmed ice aggregates for casting spatially graded concrete structures.
