As a final milestone project for the first phase of the NCCR Digital Fabrication, a 1:1 building demonstrator project at the Empa NEST living laboratory will be realised.
Real world innovations at building scale
This project will bring together individual research projects within the NCCR Digital Fabrication to create a functioning and inhabited building, designed and fabricated using digital technologies. Conceived as a future living and working laboratory, this building will allow novel materials, components and innovative systems to be tested, demonstrated and optimised under real-world conditions. The goals of this project are threefold: First is the opportunity to perfect innovations and systems in a real world application. The second goal is to use the project to engage with both the public and private enterprise to promote innovation in architecture and construction. The third goal is to operate and monitor the building over time, so as to have long-term feedback that allows for continual refinement on the understanding of digital fabrication.
