Mania Aghaei Meibodi

Dr. Mania Aghaei Meibodi is Assistant Professor of Architecture at Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan.

She was a Senior post doctoral researcher at team of Digital Building Technologies (dbt), Department of Architecture, ETH Zurich.

Her design process poses an interplay between fabrication technology, materials and computational algorithm, creating geometrically complex architecture with new aesthetic expression for the 21st Century. At DBT, she develops “3D printing+” research trajectory, in which the focus is on indirect use of 3D printing technologies with intention to fabricate large scale building parts with complex inner and outer features that are highly detailed. Instead of focusing on 3d printing the final building parts, 3d printing technologies are used to fabricate mold or formwork, which then in turn produces the final building parts; So far 3D printing+ is focused to form cast concrete, aluminium and glass parts

she explores the potential of additive manufacturing (AM) for large scale building parts with complex inner and outer features that are highly detailed.

Mania studied architecture at KTH school of Architecture in Stockholm, Sweden, receiving a Master of architecture in 2008, and a Ph. D. in Architecture with specialty in Architectural Technology in 2016.
